Creating Meaningful Content
I can't tell you how many people I've encountered that pretty much HATE creating content. In an era where content is KING (or QUEEN), it is a necessary evil that you consistently produce "info bits" that bring visibility and awareness to you and/or your business venture for the sake of promotion or advertisement. Those who are having a hard time with creating content are usually:
Not sure what qualifies as "content;"
Thinking that "content" has to be perfect, over-the-top, and costly; and,
Disconnected from it all because they are hellbent on mimicking someone else's strategy instead of finding a method or framework that is authentic to them!
So, let me help…
Simply put, "content" is information. How you share that info, whether it is through a photo, video or text, is up to you. Choose one, all or a combo of these. Whatever you choose, I would suggest using the media you're most comfortable with.
Secondly, creating content doesn't have to be over-the-top or costly. With modern conveniences, you can literally take a photo or video with your phone, experiment with those filter options, and it'll look like you hired a professional. You don't need a production team or a ghostwriter. (Sidenote: I DO ghostwrite. Call me.) A couple of well-crafted sentences expressing a thought or feeling is fine. Or, a paragraph or two of good advice is always great!
Third, creating meaningful content requires that you be connected to it! For instance, I'm a dancer at heart, but making dancing videos for TikTok is not what God called me to do. Besides, I don’t want to do that! I express myself best through writing, and I photograph pretty well. So that's what I'm gonna stick to. AND, I'm only gonna talk (or post photos) about what I know, what I feel like, and what I'm connected to or passionate about.
I have a friend who is a mental health therapist who was having a difficult time creating content. I asked him what he was passionate about, to which he said "mental health, cooking, and working out." I worked with him to create a content calendar where he chronicled and shared activities or thoughts that were connected to any of his three passions. It was authentic. And because it was authentic, he enjoyed it and became consistent at churning out interesting stuff. AND, as we all know, consistency is key! Plus, perspective clients were able to assess how he would treat them as patients. Needless to say, it helped grow his practice!
So, stop overthinking it and create content that is meaningful to YOU. There is an audience out there that will appreciate it, if that's your goal.
